2024 Hang Múa Ninh Binh: All things you need to know – Ultimate Guide

It was my first time climbing on top of the limestone karst! In this blog, I am going to share you my experience and provide you all the things you need to know when visiting Hang Mua. Visit my Destinations for other travel guides!

Hang Múa Cave – Ninh Binh, Vietnam

Hang Mua is known for its stunning limestone karst formations and the panoramic viewpoint at the top. It is located approximately 5 kilometers away from the center of the town of Trang An in Ninh Binh.

Hang Múa Cave itself is a natural cave nestled in the limestone mountains. However, the main attraction is the viewpoint at the top of the karst, which provides spectacular views of the Tam Coc landscape, rice fields, and the Ngo Dong River winding through the region.

How to reach Hang Múa

Hang Múa is located between Trang An and Tam Coc. There are three ways to reach Hang Múa from Ninh Binh Center or from your hotel anywhere within Ninh Binh.

  1. Motorcycle – You may rent a motorcycle from this shop just in front of the train station. The rental fee costs around 300k VND to 500k VND per day depending on the type of motorcycle. And you don’t have to worry if you are arriving late at night in Ninh Binh, they are open 24 Hours.

    Pros: Convenient to use if you plan to visit multiple places around Ninh Binh and especially if you are carrying a heavy bag.
    Cons: Generally, roads in Vietnam can be dangerous and in Ninh Binh, there are a lot of trucks so you have to be extra careful. Another thing to consider is the parking lot in places that you want to visit, Beware of Scammers. Lastly, you need to have a license.

  2. Bicycle – The best way to explore Ninh Binh is by bicycle! Make sure to ask your hotel if they can lend you one. Most hotels in Ninh Binh have bicycles available for their guests, but keep in mind that they may run out at times.”

    Pros: Convenient to use next to using a motorcycle. Plus you may fit in any alley in Vietnam and you may also ride through the path ways of rice fields which is a great experience! Lastly, it is completely free and you don’t have to be stressed in looking for a parking lot.
    Cons: Just like riding a motorcycle, you have to be wary of the huge trucks on the road as well as other vehicles.

  3. Walk – If you are staying near Hang Múa and other tourist spots, this is obviously the best way.

    Pros: You can walk anywhere, you don’t have to pay, and extra exercise!
    Cons: It is just more tiring.

Getting Inside the Hang Múa

Hang Múa operates as a designated tourist destination. Upon entry, visitors are obligated to purchase a ticket, priced at 100,000 VND (around 4 USD). Additionally, there is a charge of 10,000 VND for motorcycle parking.

Caution: Potential Scammers

Watch out for scams! They take advantage of tourists by lying about parking rules to make money. One lady claimed only locals could park inside and demanded payment. Another guy at the park entrance tried to scam me too, even hitting my motorcycle when I refused. It’s crazy how far they go to cheat people.

What to do in Hang Múa

Hang Múa is an official tourist park showcasing its cave, offering a hiking experience atop limestone karsts, and providing a panoramic viewpoint of the town and the river alongside the limestone karsts.

Here are the things you can do in the park:

1. Enjoy the Scenic Trail

The path to Hang Múa’s peak is adorned with charming coffee shops and a tranquil lake, offering picturesque stops along the way. Here you may have your breakfast or get some snacks while chilling and enjoying the ambience.

Be amazed by the amazing limestone hills, formed by rain and nature’s work. Climb about 500 steps to reach the top, where you’ll find two big hills with a pagoda and dragon statue nestled on top of the hills.

3. Climb the First Peak – Pagoda

You may reach the first peak of the limestone karst of Hang Mua in just 10 minutes from the starting point. No worries because the trail is paved with stairs all the way to the top. There you will see the small pagoda, and have a panoramic view of the lotus garden together with the town of Ninh binh.

4. Climb Second Peak – Dragon Statue

The second peak offers another pagoda and the dragon statue nestled on top of the limestone karst. Climbing to the dragon statue is quite dangerous. Not only because you have to walk through the limestones but also due to the number of tourists lining up to reach the statue. Once you reached the top, you can walk alongside the dragon to reach its tail.

The best time to visit Ninh Binh, including Hang Múa, is during the dry season from November to April. This period offers pleasant weather with lower chances of rain, ideal for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic beauty of the region.
